Welcome to Drops of Tradition
This website is devoted to food. As a visitor, you will be able to get to know different types of food which are both the part of our daily life and national heritage.
When it comes to the project “DROPS” itself, it has two aims.
First it is a project that aims at prolonging and nurturing each country’s traditions and culture by increasing students` cultural awareness while accepting each other’s identity and diversity to build on the European dimension in the long term.
Second it is an acronym of “Dialogue to Renew Old Philosophy of Schools”. We will have a look at our past, discuss and analyse the present situation of each schools and plan and create new methods for the future.
Through these “DROPS” we will initiate the mental and emotional development of our students by widening their knowledge and hence encouraging them to accept diversity and different opinions. It will contribute to show positive emotions towards parents and peers and we intend to involve them in an innovative school that will allow them to express their opinion about teaching, and learning methodologies.
“DROPS” is a project to make our students aware of values in tradition, to protect our environment, to use foreign languages as a tool of communication, to preserve old inside values in communities and it is also a project about how to develop the so called old school in the 21st century innovative school.
Report about Drops of Tradition
The first meeting, Drops of Tradition, started on 11th November and lasted for five days.
Both teachers and students from partner schools participated in this event which concentrated on traditional food and traditions as such.
First the guests were hosted by our school.
The official opening ceremony started at 8 a.m. and included a special theatre performance and a concert from the school band.
After that the students took part in an interesting chemistry lesson during which they were involved in detecting protein, starch and sugar in the food.
Later they joined their Polish friends in their lessons.
In the meantime Project coordinators and other teachers were able to see the school and meet the teaching staff.
Then everybody got together in the main hall and students presented traditional recipes from their countries.
They also had a lot of fun while dancing and mingling with each other.
In the afternoon the students from our school walked their guests around their home town showing them its landmarks and the local museum, which is famous for its beekeeping exhibition.
On Wednesday everybody headed for Kraków, a city of culture and tradition where they could admire different historic styles of architecture.
This trip also included a visit to the Wieliczka Salt Mine, a world class monument present on the UNESCO’s World Cultural and Natural Heritage List.
On the last day of this meeting both students and teachers were engaged in bread baking activities in one of the ecological farms near Kluczbork.
The activity consisted in making bread rolls starting from the preparation of the sourdough.
They also participated in a lecture on honey production and beekeeping and in a candle making activity using beeswax.
During this meeting the students also had the possibility of experiencing the culture and traditions at their host families whereas the teachers worked on future tasks and discussed next meetings.
Thanks to our hosts! We had a great time together and our students came home with nice experiences and both emotionally and spiritually filled.
